Search Booking Reports in Indiana

There are three main ways to get booking reports in Indiana. You can go online, visit in person, or send a written request by mail. The method you pick depends on what you need and where the records are held. Online tools work well for quick checks. In-person visits let you see the full file. Mail requests work if you live far from the sheriff's office or need records from the IDOC in Indiana.

Under IC 5-14-3-3, any person can inspect and copy public records during normal business hours at any public agency in Indiana. You do not have to state a reason for your request. The agency cannot deny you just because you will not say why you want the booking reports. They can charge for copies but not for looking at records in person. County Booking Records in Indiana

Each of the 92 counties in Indiana keeps its own booking reports. The county sheriff's office is the main source. When someone is arrested, the jail creates a booking report with their name, charges, bond amount, and booking date. Under IC 5-14-3-5, this data must be shared with the public. The law also says each agency must keep a daily log of suspected crimes, accidents, or complaints. That log must be created within 24 hours of the reported event in Indiana.

A typical booking report in Indiana includes:

  • Name, age, and address of the person

  • Bond or bail amount if set
  • Arresting officer and agency

Indiana Booking Reports Costs

Looking at booking reports costs nothing in Indiana. You have a right to inspect them for free under IC 5-14-3-3. If you want copies, agencies can charge a fee. Under IC 5-14-3-8, the maximum is $0.10 per page for standard copies and $0.25 per page for color copies. Certified copies can cost up to $5 per document. These caps apply to all public agencies in Indiana.

Under IC 35-38-8, some records in Indiana may be expunged after set waiting periods. Arrests without conviction can be expunged after one year. Misdemeanors wait five years. Felonies wait eight years. If a record has been expunged, it will not show up in a booking reports search.
